Mr. Manugo, PrincipalMr. Carey Manugo, Principal

Mr. Manugo began his career with VBCPS as a social studies teacher at Bayside High School in 1995. In 2005, he moved into the administrative ranks first as an administrative assistant at Kellam HS and later as an assistant principal at Kempsville High School. He previously served as the principal of Independence Middle School, where he led the school to full accreditation for seven consecutive years. Mr. Manugo is a proud graduate of Old Dominion University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History/Education. In addition, he holds a Master of Arts in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University.

Ms. Blair, image coming soonMs. Jacqueline Blair, Assistant Principal

Prior to joining the Larkspur team, Ms. Blair was a Math Specialist at Green Run High School and Bayside High School. Ms. Blair also taught eighth grade math and Algebra at Brandon Middle School. She began her teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools, and has also taught in the Shenandoah area before moving to Virginia Beach. Ms. Blair earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, a Master of Arts in Curriculum & Instruction from Virginia Tech, and an Administration & Leadership certification from George Washington University.

Ms. JenningsMs. Briana Jennings, Assistant Principal

Prior to joining the staff at Larkspur, Ms. Jennings was an assistant principal at Princess Anne Middle School. Ms. Jennings also served as the School Improvement Specialist and as an Administrative Assistant at Lynnhaven Middle School. She began her teaching career in the Norfolk City School System. Ms. Jennings also spent her years in the classroom teaching English at Plaza Middle School where she was awarded Teacher of the Year. Ms. Jennings is a proud graduate of Virginia Wesleyan University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. In addition, she holds a Master of Arts in English from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University. In her spare time, Ms. Jennings enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.


Mr. TurnerMr. Marcus Turner, Assistant Principal

Mr. Turner joined the Larkspur family during the 2016-2017 school year. He began his career with Virginia Beach City Public Schools in 2011. Prior to joining Larkspur, he was a health and physical education teacher at Princess Anne Middle School where he also helped coach the girls and boys track teams. Mr. Turner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Virginia State University and a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion University.

Mrs. BergrenMs. Christina Bergren, School Counselor Chair 

Mrs. Bergren attended Virginia Beach Public Schools and graduated from First Colonial High School. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Radford University and a Master’s degree in School Counseling from Old Dominion University. She started her career with VBCPS as a middle school English teacher and has been a school counselor on the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

Mrs. RawlsMs. Billie Rawls, School Improvement Specialist

Ms. Rawls is a product of the Virginia Beach Public School System having attended elementary, junior high and high school in Virginia Beach. She graduated from Bayside High School in 1988 and earned her Bachelor's degree from Old Dominion University. After teaching fourth and fifth grade for 10 years, she made the leap to middle school as our School Improvement Specialist (SIS). As our SIS, Ms. Rawls is responsible for the remediation of students before, during and after school as well as serving as our Student Testing Coordinator.

Ms. SpurgeonMs. Julie Spurgeon, Student Activities Coordinator

Juliana Spurgeon is the Student Activities Coordinator (SAC) at Larkspur Middle School, a position she has held for the past 14 years. As the SAC, she oversees all interscholastic and intramural sports programs as well as all academic teams and extracurricular activities. Prior to coming to Larkspur, Julie taught Health and Physical Education for 12 years at the high and middle school levels. She was born and raised in Virginia Beach and is a die-hard Redskins fan.
